Managing localization quality across dozens of vendors and 40+ languages quickly turns chaotic without a standardized quality framework. Subjective feedback like "this translation feels unnatural" leads to endless vendor disputes.

The DQF-MQM Error Typology Standard

The Dynamic Quality Framework (DQF) merged with Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) provides an industry-standard categorization for localization error auditing:

1. Error Categories

Errors are categorized into standardized buckets: Accuracy (Omission, Addition, Mistranslation), Terminology (Glossary Violation), Fluency (Grammar, Spelling), Style (Brand Voice), and Formatting (Placeholder/Tag corruption).

2. Severity Weighting

Calculating the Quality Score (Pass/Fail Gate)

The total error penalty score is calculated per 1,000 words. If the score falls below the threshold (e.g., 98/100), the batch automatically fails QA and triggers vendor re-work at no additional cost.
